Limmu

Limmu coffee, grown at elevations ranging from 1,400 to 2,000 meters in Ethiopia’s scenic East Wollega Zone, is celebrated for its balanced, nuanced cup profile and exceptional quality. This highland region, with its fertile volcanic soils, moderate climate, and consistent rainfall, provides ideal growing conditions for slow cherry maturation, allowing complex flavors to develop naturally.

Most Limmu coffee is washed (wet-processed), a method that enhances its clarity and brightens its inherent floral and citrus notes. The result is a clean, elegant brew characterized by moderate acidity, a balanced body, and refined sweetness. Common tasting notes include citrus (lemon, clementine), floral jasmine, honey, white chocolate, apricot, black tea, and caramel. In some lots, particularly naturals, the flavor spectrum expands to include berry tones, lavender, cacao, and subtle hints of wisteria, adding depth and intrigue.

Producers attribute Limmu coffee’s distinctive cup to the region’s terroir—a harmonious combination of rich highland soils, heirloom varietals, and meticulously managed fermentation practices. This combination yields a wine-like sweetness, an intricate interplay of spice and fruit, and a clarity of flavor that makes Limmu highly sought after in specialty markets worldwide.

Whether brewed as a pour-over to highlight its floral brightness or as an espresso for a lively, fruit-forward shot, Limmu coffee offers a versatile and rewarding experience. For coffee enthusiasts and roasters alike, it represents the perfect balance between Ethiopia’s rich coffee heritage and the artistry of modern specialty production.
