Yirgacheffe
Yirgacheffe, a high-altitude micro-region within Sidama (about 1,700–2,200 m), is best known for washed coffees that deliver ultra-delicate floral aroma (jasmine, lemongrass), bright citric acidity, and a tea-like softness in mouthfeel. Widely considered some of the most refined coffees in Ethiopia, Yirgacheffe beans produce a layered cup: think citrus clarity, mocha, vanilla, blueberry and black tea flavors—especially in cleaner washed processing—with silky balance and subtle spice layering.
Although washed Yirgacheffe predominates, natural or honey processed lots are also produced, offering deeper berry and winey sweetness while maintaining high floral aromatics and refined structure. Buyers and roasters consistently praise Yirgacheffe’s heirloom varietals for their genetic and terroir-driven character, resulting in clean, aromatic, and mentally stimulating brews that many feel resemble perfumed tea more than typical coffee.
